Petition Supporting Freedom and Heritage Flag in Toronto

 --ENGLISH VERSION--

To All Who Love Freedom and Respect Human Rights, please sign this petition to:
1.  Prevent the display of the Vietnam Communist flag in Toronto, across Canada and anywhere in the free world.
2.  Do not support or participate in associations under an ineffective management susceptible to propaganda and manipulation of the Communist regime.
3.  Support the complaint to Canadian Human Rights Commission for the discrimination against Vietnamese Canadians and their freedom and heritage flags.
4.  Boycott Kelly Hong Le, her events and affiliations impairing Freedom and Human Rights in Canada and around the world.

I.   In the opening ceremony of the Lunar New Year Festival, January 07, 2023, in Toronto, Canada, the Vietnamese Association Toronto (VAT) showed the red flag with a yellow star of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam (Red Flag) fully on the stage screen. In front of this flag were the masters of ceremonies, and the Canadian politicians concluding their speech.

This is the second time, VAT, under the management of Kien Thuan Le, current advisor, and former president, has honored the communist flag.  The first time was in the 2019 festival; VAT presented a film clip of the communist youth saluting the Red Flag. Their excuse was "This is a mistake".

This second communist flag incident has angered the Vietnamese Canadian community deeply. Most of them, fled the oppression of the communist regime in Vietnam, have found freedom and human rights in Canada, their second country. More than 48 hours since the community protest, the current VAT president, Kathy Thuy Nguyen, issued the apology statement blaming a stage manager. She stated: "Although a technical staff (not a Vietnamese) admitted his own mistake, but I, as Head of the Organizing Committee, accept the responsibility for the aforementioned accident."

The Red Flag occurrences, in two separate events, might not be in the intention of the VAT management, were seriously irresponsible actions that have repeated and would reoccur.

II.   Tastes of South East Asia Festival (Tastes of SEA) was held in Toronto, Canada for 3 days, 13-15 of January 2023. Kelly Hong Le, Tastes of SEA representative, banned ticket holding visitors wearing outfits, hats, scarves, …  related to the yellow flag with three horizontal red stripes (Yellow Flag) from entering the fair. Her security personnel forced fair vendors remove their merchandises, souvenirs, prints, ... with Yellow Flag images from their counters, Buddhist flags were not allowed in vegetarian food stands ...

-------
Kelly Hong Le came to Canada as a Vietnamese refugee. To celebrate the 150th anniversary of Canada in summer 2017, she created the Yellow Flag, from hundreds of yellow and red balloons, representing the Vietnamese Community in the multi-cultural parade. Her dedication won over the community. Once popularity gained and status secured, Kelly has turned around and denied the Yellow Flag, the flag that the government of Canada has recognized as the Vietnamese Heritage and Freedom Flag in Bill S-219(41-2). Her action was a direct discrimination and violation of the Human Rights Codes and the Canadian Charter of Rights guaranteed to all Canadians.
